Legacy of David John Hardy
David John Hardy, age 72, was born in Dallas, TX on October 20, 1949, to Forrest Rollo Hardy and Myrna Florence Hardy (Young). He stood before God in the late evening of December 31, 2021, as his earthly body at his home in Edgecliff Village, gave way to his eternal resurrected body in Heaven. He was preceded in this passing by his parents; his Step-Mother Donna Hardy; his Father-in-Law, Melvin Johnston; his sister-in-law, Nancy Johnston; and his brothers-in-law, Randy Moore and Terry Mattson. His Mother-in-Law, Margaret Johnston, passed on January 4, 2022. Left to share in the calling he received on earth is his wife, Sandra Ann Hardy; his oldest Abetha Douglas, her husband Byron, their two children Lilly and Logan; his son David Jason Hardy, his wife Delisse, their three children Caleb, Elizabeth, and Naomi; his son William (Billy) Duke Hardy, his wife Bethany, and their two children Collin and Isabel; his sisters Joy Schmidt and her husband Gerald, Gloria Creswell and her husband Dennis, Nancy Malone and her husband Ed, Becky Mattson; his brothers Truett Hardy and his wife Christy, Shane Hardy and his wife Shelley, Lance Hardy and his wife Natalie, and Forest Hardy; his brothers-in-law Ronnal Johnston and wife Linda, Donald Johnston and his wife Barbara, and Kenneth Johnston and wife Terri; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and family members by blood, marriage, or shared relationship with Jesus Christ.
David, a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Texas, attended Baylor University before transferring to Dallas Baptist College where he met his bride, Sandra. They were married on January 1, 1971, at Westridge Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, TX. After they married, they lived in Dallas, TX; Brownsville, TX; Bryan, TX; New Orleans, LA; Collumburg, AL; San Patricio, PR; Arlington, TX; and his final residence in Edgecliff Village, TX. During many of these places, David served several churches as a vocational and volunteer pastor, served as a supply preacher, preached in revivals and crusades, and lead worship. He was the Pastor at Collumburg Baptist Church in Collumburg, AL; Good Shepherd Baptist Chapel in Dallas, TX; Calvary Baptist Church in San Patricio, PR, and was the lead pastor of Grace Point in Edgecliff Village, TX. His final church membership was Garden Acres Baptist Church in Burleson, TX. He apprenticed as a locksmith under his brother-in-law, “Ronnie” Johnston, at Landreth’s Locksmith in Brownsville. He would later open his own locksmith company in Dallas called the Master’s Key. During his ministry, he served as a youth pastor, music pastor, associate pastor, discipleship, and missions pastor, as well as volunteering to assist in various outreach, missions, music, children’s, and youth ministries. He retired from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he was the Appliance and Locksmith Lead. While there he was able to minister to countless future and current pastors, missionaries, and their families. Towards the end of his earthly ministry, David served as a Chaplin to people who suffered from a type of cancer called Neuroendocrine Tumors (NET for short and patients known as Zebras) in an online ministry that spanned the globe and that cancer would ultimately take him home to worship and praise the Lord for eternity.
David was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. While he would tell you that he was far from perfect, making many mistakes in his life, he loved his family and desired that they would be used by God, accept Jesus Christ’s gift of forgiveness, and allow the Holy Spirit to use them to fulfill the Great Commission. David has touched many lives of people all over the world and hopes his legacy will lead others to faith in Jesus Christ.
