David's obituary
DAVID H. CALLIHAN (February 24,1941 – January 26,2024) David (Dave) H. Callihan, age 82, of Belleville, Mi, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 26th, 2024, with his loving wife, Donna M. Callihan and family by his side. Loyal and dependable, with an outstanding work ethic, Dave retired from General Motors, Willow Run plant, after starting right out of high school, and giving many years of service. Dave built and loved one of his first new cars, his Corvair! It was there, that he met his wife, Donna. They shared a love of classic cars, great music and singing along to the oldies. He could name just about every car out on the road and the consumer report, to go along with them. If anyone wanted to know the latest local news, he was sure to have the details, having watched every town meeting and read every new addition of the Belleville Independent. He kept us all informed. During his “retirement”, Dave, also, went on to work again as a School Bus driver for Van Buren Dept of Transportation. He loved driving the school buses, “expertly”! After many more years of service, he retired again, for a short time. With retirement still not working, he found purpose again, driving and serving seniors through the Van Buren Senior Center. He took pride in his outstanding driving and directional skills, saying often, he should have “just” been a race car driver. We are happy he didn’t and thank him for his years of service to our community. Dave was proud of his Irish/German heritage. He was a huge sports fav, totally loyal to Michigan State “Spartans”. He was a minority, among his mainly maize and blue family, which did not bother him, even telling his doctors that instead of red, green ran through his veins. He was also an unwavering fan of the Detroit Lions through the years. He will be remembered for his dimples, sweet tooth and Great Love of Ice cream! He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Vera (James) Callihan. He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna M Callihan. Children Kathy Gimson, Denise Callihan, David Scott Callihan, Erin (Jim) Johnson, Kimberly Callihan and Jennifer Callihan. Brother, Harold (Claire) Callihan, Sister, Joyce (Les) Syring. Stepchildren, Melissa (Ron) Schubert, Melanie (Amy) Sowder, 13 Grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and remaining family and friends. A special Thanks to his primary physician, Dr Nada Patel and team of doctors through Trinity Health for the outstanding care, given to him. He is loved and will be missed by his family and friends. May he rest in peace (with all the ice cream he desires)!
