David's obituary
David Jeremiah Gustave, 39, of Hartford, CT, passed away on July 5, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with addiction and mental illness. David is remembered with deep love by his family and friends who stood by him through the highs and lows of life.
Born on February 11, 1986, David was a man of deep thought, endless curiosity, and a heart that often felt the weight of the world. He wrestled with questions of faith, purpose, and identity, always searching for something greater than himself. Though his path was difficult, it was never without meaning—he taught us about perseverance, vulnerability, and the complexity of the human spirit.
David proudly served in the United States Army, a chapter in his life that reflected both his strength and his commitment to something larger than himself. He also pursued higher education with determination, striving to better himself and understand the world more deeply—even in the midst of personal battles.
David struggled, yes—but he also smiled, laughed, and loved with a fierce loyalty. He was a brother, a son, a grandson, a friend. He was more than his addiction and his illness. He was someone trying to make sense of life and find peace within it. In his quiet moments, he longed for connection—with others, with God, and with his own purpose.
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." – Psalm 34:18
David is survived by his parents, Michael and Sharon Gustave; his sister Michelle and her husband Nate Haskell; his brother John Gustave and his wife Lesly, and their children Giselle, Gabriel, and Jovanni; his grandmother, Pame Daniel; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him dearly.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." – Matthew 11:28
We trust that David is now free from pain and confusion, resting in the arms of a merciful and understanding God. His journey on this earth has ended, but his story—his impact—lives on in those who knew and loved him. We will miss his laugh, his questions, his honesty, and the fierce tenderness he often tried to hide.
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me." – Psalm 23:4
May he now know the peace he was always seeking.
“He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. Finally, he will cause justice to be victorious.” – Matthew 12:20
