David's obituary
David James Gunkel, 62, of Mansfield, passed away on March 26th, 2024 at Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour Missouri.
Son of Grace and Melvin Gunkel, Dave was born February 12th, 1962, in Merced, CA. Dave’s family moved to Missouri and began Dairy Farming in rural Douglas County when he was very young. Dave graduated Ava High School and started his career in the Foundry at Hutchens Industries in Mansfield, where he worked for over 25 years.
Dave was never satisfied with sitting still, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and exploring the great outdoors. He was also a passionate and skilled Morel Mushroom hunter, every Spring you would find him combing the woods hunting mushrooms. One of Dave’s favorite sayings was “All who wander are not lost..”
Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Lou Beach Gunkel and Father, Melvin Francis Gunkel, two sisters, Wanda Mae Montoya, and Linda Jean Gunkel.
He is survived by two brothers, William Gunkel of Ava, Mo and Dale Gunkel of Cassville, Mo. Three daughters, Jamie Gunkel, Tracey Farris, and Tiffany Cline. 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Connor, Jadyn, Camilla, Dominic, JD, MaKaida, Kylie, Kyndall, Arianne, and Hayzlee. And great-grandchild, Kalliope, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dave was a beloved Father, Uncle, Cousin, Brother, and Friend. He has been a rock to many, He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
There will be a Memorial Fish Fry held in Dave’s honor on Sunday April 21st at the shooting range in Mansfield from 4:00-7:00.
