David's obituary
David Eugene Green, 80, of Pahrump, Nevada, passed away on March 16, 2021. David was born on December 30, 1940 to Roy and LaVerne Green in Colorado Springs, Colorado. David loved his family, classical music, reading, and dogs. After graduating from Colorado Springs High School in 1959, David went on to pursue degrees in English literature and music composition at the University of Colorado – Boulder.
In 1961, he married Elsa Lee Gillespie and they moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where their daughter was born. After returning to Colorado, David lived in Manitou and Colorado Springs. In 1979, his work for Braniff International Airways brought him to Las Vegas, Nevada. Later he became a teacher for the Clark County School District, and after earning a Master’s in Library Science from BYU, became the librarian at the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, whose talented students he truly loved.
While living in Las Vegas, he pursued his lifelong love of music, playing viola in the Henderson Symphony, where he called upon his encyclopedic knowledge of classical composers to lead the pre-concert discussions. After retiring to Pahrump, he played viola in the Pahrump String Quartet and sang in a community choir. He is survived by his wife, Lee, daughter Kelly, brother Richard and his sister-in-law Cynthia, brother-in-law John Gillespie, Jr., nieces Amy Ash and Alexa Gillespie, nephews David and Richard Green and their families, and his beloved dogs.
