With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David Gene Smith, who left us on July 2, 2025 after a battle with cancer. Born on March 17, 1951, David was a man of great humor.

David had an unending love for all types of music, finding joy in melodies and harmonies of every kind. He was an accomplished musician and played both the saxophone and piano.

David also found profound joy in the simple act of planting flowers and gardening.  He enjoyed beautifying his yard with many colorful plants and trees. He was also a wonderful cook and spent many hours creating delicious meals from scratch. 

David was preceded in death by his father, Russell Smith, his mother, Mabel Todd, his sister Marilyn Rathke, and his daughter, Tara Johnson.

David is survived by his long time friend, Alex Sung, sister, Gina Stevenson, his daughter, Erin Zinke, his granddaughter, Stephanie Mchanon, a grandson, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  

He will be deeply missed by his family and his beloved dogs, James and Chris.  We find solace in the undeniable fact that his spirit will continue to resonate in the music he loved, the flowers he planted, and the laughter he shared.
