David's obituary
HOWARD, David Ernest - age 65 of Fenton, MO, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026. He was
preceded in death by his parents, William M. and Louise M. Howard, and sister, Kathy (m.
Marty) Patterson. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Heather A. (Brinduse) Howard,
and daughter, Sophia Howard, as well as his siblings, Barbara (m. Dave) Zanini of Denver, CO,
Tom (m. Joyce) Howard of Columbus, OH, Chuck Howard of Columbus, OH, and Paul (m.
Trista) Howard of Columbus, OH, as well as his sister-in-law Holly (m. Mark) Surufka of
Brownsburg, IN. He was blessed with 12 nephews and nieces – Chad, Jill, Kevin, Liam,
Matthew, Emma, Adam, Ashley, Holly, Nick, Jarrod, and Kyle.
David was born June 1, 1960, in Erie, PA and spent his childhood in Dayton, OH, Dallas, TX,
and Denver, CO, where he explored life with his five siblings - delivering newspapers, playing
racecars, building forts, and going camping. His life-long love of music evolved playing
trombone in the jazz, pep, and marching bands at Cherry Creek High School. David thrived in
the Jazz Ensemble Band and Symphony Orchestra while attaining his Bachelor’s Degree in
Music Education from The Ohio State University. Much of his career was tied to music as a high
school music teacher and managing retail music businesses, and he curated his own
magnificent collection of music and movies to enjoy on only the best audio & video technology
he could procure - enlightening and expanding an appreciation of music with all who knew him.
David had an original, playful sense of humor and acting silly, which was in wonderful contrast
with his perfectionist side. He cherished family moments, celebrating holidays, lazy weekends,
sweet treats, and his pet dogs & bunnies. Of course, he deeply adored and appreciated his
amazing, caring, and intelligent family - wife Heather and daughter Sophie. We will miss him
dearly and are deeply thankful for the unique ways he enriched our lives! David generously
served as an organ donor, and he & his family were treated with the most outstanding and
respectful care by the staff and organ transplant team at Mercy Hospital South of St Louis, MO.
