David Livingston Elliott was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 3rd, 1953, the eldest of Jack and Barbara Elliott's children. In his youth he was an avid sportsman, preferring to play baseball over practicing for his piano lessons, and volunteering at the annual St. Jude Golf tournament after his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee.
