David's obituary
David E. Burgess, born February 7, 1984, left this world far too soon on August 6, 2024. His sudden departure has left an indescribable void in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him. To say David was loved doesn’t even begin to capture the depth of emotion he stirred in the lives he touched. He was more than a son, a father, a friend—he was a beacon of light in a sometimes dark world, someone who gave without hesitation and loved without limit.
He is survived by his mother, Gina Burgess, whose heart now carries the unimaginable weight of losing her only son. His beloved grandfather, David C. Burgess, watched him grow into a man whose compassion and warmth knew no boundaries. Most tragically, David leaves behind two beautiful daughters, Olivia & Lilith Burgess, and his handsome son Leland Burgess—who will forever carry his memory, his laugh, his warmth, and the deep love he showered upon them. His children were his greatest pride, and every moment he spent with them was filled with joy, love, and a tenderness that words fail to capture.
David’s life was a testament to the beauty of the simple things—he found peace in the quiet of the outdoors, where he could lose himself in the whisper of the wind and the rustle of the leaves. Music was the soundtrack to his soul, a constant rhythm that reflected the beats of his big heart. But more than anything, it was the people around him—his friends, his family, his children—who truly made him come alive. Whether he was sharing a laugh in person or connecting with others through live streams, David always made those around him feel special, seen, and loved.
Though his time on Earth was far too short, David’s spirit continues to live on in the most profound way. In his final act of generosity, David gave the ultimate gift—his organs have already been placed into others, bringing hope and life to families who would otherwise have known the same despair of loss. His heart, which overflowed with love in life, now beats in someone else’s chest. His kindness will live on, not just in the memories of those who loved him, but in the lives he saved.
It is impossible to put into words the depth of our sorrow or the magnitude of the loss we feel. The world seems a little colder, a little dimmer without David’s infectious laughter, his gentle spirit, and his giving heart. But we hold tight to the belief that somewhere, somehow, he is still watching over us, guiding us, and loving us just as fiercely as he did when he was here.
David, you were the embodiment of kindness, the heart of our family, and the light in so many lives. You are gone, but never forgotten. Your legacy lives on in the hearts you’ve touched and the lives you’ve saved.
Rest in peace, David.
You were one of a kind, and you will never be forgotten.
