David McClellan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of joy, humor, and deep devotion to his family and work. He was 81 years old.

Born on September 1, 1943, in New York, David lived a life filled with purpose, laughter, and love. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlene (Heydt) McClellan, their daughter Caroline (Christopher) Kellough, and grandchildren Eloise and Jack, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill and Mark; sister-in-law, Gail; their families; and his best friend, David Theiss. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marlin and Mary Gertrude (Gillis) McClellan and eldest brother, Frank.

Dave began his career at Sears while still in high school, dedicating 35 years to the company. Through hard work and determination, he rose through the ranks to become a nationally recognized intimate apparel trainer—known affectionately across the country as “The Bra Man.” His role took him to all 50 states, and his magnetic personality made him a memorable figure wherever he went.

After retiring from Sears, Dave began a second career with Disney, working as a security guard for 17 years. There, he became known as the “Singing Bag Check Man,” bringing smiles and laughter to thousands of guests with his cheerful spirit and impromptu serenades.

Dave was a veteran who served his country in the U.S Army as a drill sergeant. He enjoyed music and loved to sing for fun. He loved to travel and to eat. He was fascinated by new technology and was often an early adopter of things like 6-disc CD spinners and bread machines. He did everything in a big way. Dave was truly larger than life. His presence filled every room, and he was the life of the party (where he would fold napkins into bras, dollar bills into rings, and do full body impressions of frying bacon). He delighted in making people laugh through silliness, often making up his own silly words, or recreating sketches like Ferd Berfel and Fannie Farkel. He was the best story reader.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. His legacy of kindness, humor, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and all those he touched throughout his extraordinary life.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held later this summer in Chicago, where stories, laughter, and cherished memories will be shared in honor of a man who made the world a brighter place.
