David's obituary
David Ralph Dilling, born on January 10, 1939, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024, in Lafayette, Indiana, at the age of 85.
David was the son of Ralph and Rose Dilling. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy; his daughter, Anne Gick; his brother, John Dilling; and his sisters, Betty Baptista and Marti Brown. He is survived by his children: Mary Vasto of North Carolina, Laura Holloway of Colorado, and Jon Dilling of Georgia.
A dedicated scholar and lifelong learner, David earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wheaton College, a Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Theology from Grace Theological Seminary. He also earned Master of Arts and PhD in Philosophy of Education from Purdue University. His academic achievements reflected his deep commitment to both knowledge and faith. Writing was an important pursuit and he particularly enjoyed writing Greek translations of books of the New Testament. David self-published over 25 books and taught biblical Greek language translation classes at his home for many years.
David was a long-time resident of Lafayette, IN, where he and Nancy raised their four children and he worked in sales. David’s life was also enriched by other activities. As a young man, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and played trumpet in the Altoona High School band. As an adult he found great joy in woodworking projects and gardening. David also loved music, playing the piano, and singing classic church hymns that expressed his enduring faith.
David’s legacy is one of faith, intellect, and creativity, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
