David (Dave)'s obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of David "Dave" Cowdrey, who left us on February 17, 2024. Born September 10, 1941, Dave lived a full life, and his absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him.
He is survived by his long-time love, Linda Howell, sisters Phyllis (Bill) Freeman and Judy (Bill) Greskovic, son Jody Cowdrey, step-daughters Lydia Mortensen and Michelle Sexton, grandchildren Trevor, Alex, Eric and Courtney, and his cat Lulu. Dave's memory will live on through his family and the many lives he touched with his personality and charm.
Those who knew Dave will remember his gentle strength, elegant mastery of dance, love of animals and strong work ethic. He pursued what he loved and was lucky to be able to explore so many interests throughout his life.
Dave had a zest for life, bringing his passion to his ballroom dancing and caring for his prized rabbits. He loved taking leisurely drives in the country, watching football and eating pumpkin pie! The color red was his favorite and reflected his vibrant spirit. When he was young and growing up in rural Massachusetts, he enjoyed polka dancing, playing soccer and horses.
Among his numerous accomplishments, Dave was a retired Air Force veteran, who served overseas in Turkey, then for many years as a reservist. He was a champion ballroom dancer, who founded the Renaissance Ballroom Dance Studio in Ossian, IN. If you were ever his dance partner, it was immediately evident just how good he was! Even novices would feel like they were floating across the floor when they danced with Dave. He was dedicated instructor, who always went above and beyond to support his students.
Despite all his achievements, Dave was proudest of his son, Jody. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life lived fearlessly with grace, kindness, and love.
