David's obituary
Dr. David Cryns – proud father, grandfather, loving husband, dedicated OB-GYN, and passionate educator – passed away on February 20, 2025.
Above all, David was a deeply devoted father who championed his children and grandchildren in every way. His love and belief in their dreams never wavered. He is survived by his wife, Blanca; five children, Alyssa (and husband Alex), Nic (and wife Sierra), Max (and wife Kayley), Liesbeth, and Suse; and his beloved grandchildren Sofia, Nina, Leila, and a baby boy Leo, born in March 2025.
David is also survived by his siblings: Daniel, Theresa, Louise, Ellen, and Giselle. He has been reunited with his siblings Joe, Chris, and Simone. David’s love extended to all his nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws across California, Oregon, Utah, New York, Illinois, and Mexico.
Outside of his family, being a caregiver was David’s calling in life. As an OB-GYN, he helped bring over 10,000 babies into the world. Throughout his career, he was a staunch supporter of women’s health and was dedicated to providing medical support to all who needed it. He considered supporting underserved families in the Central Valley as one of his most important contributions. He worked with patients at the Family HealthCare Network in California from 2009 to 2021 and in Albany, NY, from 1996 to 2009.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Cryns taught and mentored many medical students at AT Still University, sharing his expertise and passion for medicine while shaping the next generation of doctors. He held his medical assistants and colleagues in high regard, deeply respecting their work and dedication.
Beyond his medical career, David had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel around the world, learning about new cultures. He would often remind those around him of the importance of saying “Please” and “Thank You” in the local language wherever they went. Some of his favourite places he explored were in Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Germany, Japan and Spain. In quieter moments, he found joy in the simple pleasures, like a nice steak, a sci-fi/fantasy novel, or playing Angry Birds 2 and building friendships across the globe in the process.
David’s impact on his patients, students, colleagues, and loved ones will be deeply felt.
A Celebration of Life service to honor his life will be held at Garrapata Beach, California (south of Carmel) on Friday 8/22/25. For any additional details, please reach to crynshome@gmail.com
