From Calistoga, to Santa Rosa to San Diego and more, Dave’s home was always open to all of us. He made us all feel welcomed, cared for, seen and genuinely loved. Dave had that rare quality that made us all feel at home in his home. I have so many fond memories of sitting around a table or on kitchen counters chatting away with Dave. He was such a fierce supporter of all of us- always wanting an update on our lives, celebrating our achievements with us. He was so easy to talk with and

I can remember once such dinner where we were close to graduating from college, all kind of talking about the uncertainties of life after graduation and he told us that if we weren’t sure what we wanted to do that was okay- to decide what we wanted our lives to look like and find a job to support that life. This piece of advice is something that I followed that day, something that still guides my career decisions and advice that I have given to others. Another piece of advice that Dave gave us as young adults when one of us girls was going through a breakup was “the best revenge is a good life”. Another one that I have used, followed and shared! I am so grateful to have learned from him and I’ll carry these pieces of advice with me throughout my life.

I am so grateful for those strong James genes- I see so many of the wonderful qualities of Dave in his children. His impact will last far beyond his lifetime and he will be so deeply missed and so fondly remembered! Sending so much love to his loved ones 🤍

David’s obituary describes him so well.  He and I spent all of our lives debating, arguing, testing our ideas about everything on each other.  We shared many interests and loved finding humor and sharing laughter.  David inspired me in many ways, and I admired his many qualities.  I am very lucky to have been his brother.

David was my fierce sweet younger brother  who had the biggest heart. He loved with all his heart and put his whole self into everything he did. He was intelligent curious and compassionate with everyone he knew. Words cannot due him justice I feel blessed he was my brother and that I was able to share his whole life. I will miss him beyond measure finding comfort in my memories and his three beautiful children he left behind Samantha, Jack and Sadie. You are in my heart forever David I love you so much you will be missed greatly

Love your sister
