David's obituary
David Byrum, 80, passed away on June 27, 2025, in Spokane Valley, Washington. Born on October 27, 1944, in Spokane, Washington, David spent his life rooted in the community where he was born and raised.
David proudly served his country as a Military Police officer in the National Guard. His commitment to service extended beyond his military years—he lived each day with a sense of duty to others. Known for his kind heart, David gave freely of his time and was always willing to help someone in need. He tried to place the needs of others before his own, leaving a quiet but lasting impression on those who knew him.
David had a fun-loving spirit and made friends easily. He enjoyed spending time with the people he cared about, often sharing laughs over drinks or during lively gatherings full of stories and energy. His circle of friends was wide, and he truly valued those relationships.
A craftsman, David found joy in working with his hands. He built unique cigar box guitars that blended artistry and music, designed and laminated signs that carried humor and meaning, and created woodworking pieces that brought joy to many. In recent months, he surprised and delighted others by taking up knitting—another creative outlet that quickly became a favorite way to give to others.
David’s legacy lives on through those who loved him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carrie Byrum; daughter, Kathleen Kai and Heidi Byrum; brothers, Fred and Ron Byrum; and three cherished grandchildren: Ryan, Cameron and Brenden. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Elsie Byrum.
A memorial service honoring David’s life will be held at a later date.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a reminder of a life marked by generosity, creativity, kindness, and a spirit that welcomed others.
