David's obituary
David Michael “Mick” Blankenship, 53, passed away peacefully at his home in Spring Hill, Florida, on November 12, 2025, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on June 30, 1972, in Madison, West Virginia, Mick was the beloved son of the late Gary Allen Blankenship and Sharon Kay Blankenship. Throughout his life, he remained deeply connected to his roots and to the people who shaped him.
Mick faced his illness with unwavering strength and resilience. Despite the challenges of his diagnosis, he continued to embrace life fully—riding ATVs with lifelong friend Scott Brady and having numerous visits with another lifelong friend, Fran Thompson, cheering on his favorite football teams, and spending cherished time visiting with family. His determination to live each day with joy and purpose was a testament to his enduring spirit.
Those who knew Mick remember him as someone with an enormous heart. He had a gift for making others feel seen and valued, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. His warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Gary D. Blankenship, Kristen Canter, Malissa Brown, Mark Blankenship, Brian (Scott) Blankenship, and Matthew Blankenship. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will carry forward his memory. A special acknowledgment goes to Wayne Brown for the devoted care he provided throughout Mick’s illness and during his final days.
While Mick’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who loved him, there is comfort in knowing he has been reunited with his parents. His legacy of kindness and loyalty will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
May his memory bring peace and comfort to those who mourn his loss.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled and held at a later date.
