David's obituary
David was born on February 8, 1962, to William and Marie Basquez in Manhattan, NY, and grew up in Port Jefferson, NY. He was the first of three brothers, and was known as a brother to fosters who came into the family's care.
After graduating from Port Jefferson High School, David attended Northrop University in California, and began work in airline maintenance for Newark Airlines, which later merged with Continental, and ultimately, United Airlines.
His marriage to Elisabeth Teresi in 1996 produced two children, Sebastian and Sierra Basquez, who grew up under the loving care of both parents even after their separation in 2003. David's love and commitment to his children was known by many. His sense of humor was also well-known to those who worked with him and knew him. David had a passion for collectible antiques, rock music, greek food, Dodge Chargers, GI Joe's, and other memorabilia of earlier decades. He also loved mid-century modern art, and was a skilled aircraft technician for over three decades. His friends at United described him as "one of the best and most reliable technicians" - someone they could always count on. Despite increasing challenges from the complications of Type 1 diabetes, David never complained, always rising to meet the tasks for which he was accountable.
Those who knew David describe him as generous, kind, goofy, and loving. He would always go the extra mile to help a friend, to include his family's friends on outings, and insisted on footing the bill. He found deep friendship with his roommate, Lina, whose love and caring contributed so much to his well-being in his last months.
David is survived by his two children, Sebastian Basquez, 24, and Sierra Basquez, 21, his youngest brother Stephen Basquez, and his father and stepmother, William and Joanne Basquez.
In light of the pandemic, there will be two memorial services:
The first service is for David's Orlando co-workers and friends. It will be held on the TEAMS platform on Wednesday, 12/30 at 11am. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, this virtual gathering is limited to 30 minutes.
An in-person family memorial will be held in New York on Saturday, April 10.
If you are outside the area, a virtual option to attend will be available. Details forthcoming.
If you'd like to receive more information on either or both services, please RSVP to EverLoved on the indicated link.
We also welcome and encourage all of David's friends and family to share their memories, thoughts, and photos on this site. Thank you.
In lieu of flowers, we are carefully selecting a charity for children with diabetes; information also forthcoming.
