David Benjamin Almond, Sr.

David Benjamin Almond, Sr. was born on Sunday, January 2, 1955, at General Hospital in Los Angeles, California, to parents Lenora Hortense and Berman Almond. He was the 9th child born to them. Those family members who have preceded him in death are parents Berman and Lenora Almond; brothers Berman Darrell Almond, Byron Almond, Joseph Almond; sister Andrea Elaine Zimmerman, Lester Michael Zimmerman Jr. (brother-in-law), Brian Zimmerman (nephew), Phillip Zimmerman (nephew), Erroll Lesley (brother-in-law), Jay Sibley (brother-in-law).

David B. Almond had done graduate work in Biblical studies at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, Ca. David also had a Master of Arts degree in computer-based education. He has traveled to Western Europe, Asia, and the Americas. He was very grateful for the blessings he had received from God, family, and country.

He was a Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1975, including a portion of his time aboard the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk. David was the author of a book entitled A Sailor’s Story in Black and White, Battle for the Hawk, which chronicles the race riot aboard that carrier in Oct. of 1972. After an honorable discharge from the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman in June of 1975, he worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital as a Cardiology Technician. Later, David worked as a Los Angeles City Fire Department Paramedic for five years from 1977 to 1982. Always desiring to serve humanity, he became disillusioned when he realized he was only addressing the physical wounds of society, so he heard the call to prepare for ministry to address the spiritual matters of the soul.

David was an educator, pastor, and prison chaplain. He was on two homeless shelter mission staffs, one in Los Angeles, where he oversaw career and adult education, and in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, as Director of Men’s Programs.

David was President and co-founder, along with his wife Janice, of Lost Lives Matter, Inc., a non-profit organization that encourages and trains followers of Jesus Christ to share the Gospel message Christ commanded in Matthew 28:19-20.

David and his wife Janice, were in their 50th year of marriage. David and Janice are the parents of four wonderful, beautiful, and God-fearing children: David, Monica, Timothy, and Eric. David is survived by his lovely wife Janice, brother—Paul N. Almond, sister-in-law Thu Almond, sisters—Gabrielle Sibley, Charlesetta Leslie, and Marlene Almond, four children—David B. Almond Jr. (Kirsten Almond), Dr. Monica R. Maybank (MSG Army Ret. Cedric Maybank), Timothy M. Almond, Esq. (Diana Almond), Eric N. Almond, brothers-in-law Curtiss Hayes Jr., Collin Hayes, Esq., twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and many more nephews and nieces. David enjoyed spending time with family and friends in the East, Central, and West coast of the United States. David and Janice had a passion for sharing the Gospel and discipling through writing, singing, street witnessing, and one-on-one relationships. They have a strong desire to see the Church become one in purpose (John 13:34-35) and a commitment to carry out the “Great Commission” (Matthew 28:19-20).
