David's obituary

David Herman Alexander was born in Danville, VA on February 21, 1940. He was the first born child of three born to Herman and Mazelle Alexander.

David loved music and played the trumpet in his youth then enjoyed it into adulthood. He also loved to harmonize while singing with his wife.

He loved magic tricks and performed magic shows with a Christian message to various churches and other small venues to the delight of audiences young and old. He often involved his wife and children in the magic shows as well.

David grew up loving to garden with his granddad. It was how he happily spent summers as a boy and continued to love all things green all the way until his passing.

He went to high school in Kernersville, NC and one day in 1956 a fair-skinned, lovely sister of his friend showed up and stole his heart away. Ruth Rodgerson and David married a year later at the tender age of 17 on July 13, 1957. They spent their early years in Oak Ridge, TN where they had their first three children, Cheri, Mike, and Tammy. Their fourth, Joe, was born in Flint, MI.

David had a firm hand as a father, but he also knew how to laugh hard and make those around him do the same. He was a story teller like his father before him and thoroughly enjoyed telling tall tales to his kids and grandkids. He was an entertainer to the end.

David was the son of a preacher man in a time when preachers had more than one job. After retirement, Herman became a missionary in the Philippines for 7 years. He did tool and die work for Union Carbide and David learned that trade as well. Throughout his working career he alternated between tool and die work and sales. He was a gifted salesman and could finesse the sale of just about any product or service to just about any audience. He was a man of many talents with a penchant for remembering a multitude of facts and information.

David loved Jesus and his wife and his kids and their kids. He was so pleased when he knew any of them were following Jesus so he could be with them eternally. His beloved wife departed on October 26, 2015. He leaves behind his children: daughter, Cheri Bronson and her husband Duane Bronson of Blanchard, MI and their children, Krista (Ryan) Tice, Adam (Jenn), Isaiah, Elijah, Shakinah, and Cherish; his son, Michael Alexander and his wife, Benita Alexander of Union, MO and their children Ashley, Aaron, Rachel, Ashley D., and Nathaniel; his daughter, Tamara Mueller and her husband Shawn Mueller of Poolville, TX and their children Lilian and Zane; and his son, Joe Alexander of Whitsett, NC and his children Justin (Alina), Joshua, Colton, Samuel, and Jillian; and his great grandchildren, Reese Carter, Julian Umbright, Luca Alexander, Mila Alexander, Isabella Cameron, Dexter Morris, Braelyn and Mikayla Tice; also, his siblings, sister, Judith Alexander of Greenville, SC and brother, Raymond Alexander of Greenville, SC. The family request in lieu of flowers, donations in David's name be sent to Calvary Baptist Church – Lottie Moon Missionary Offering. Friends and family members may attend the celebration of life, officiated by Pastor Josh Eller, on Saturday, February 2 at 4:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 5585 Burlington Road, McLeansville, North Carolina, 27301.
