David's obituary
David Whitehead, age 77, of Harpers Ferry, WV passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Ilford, England, on July 28, 1947, he was the beloved son of Archie and Lavinia Whitehead. David moved at a young age to the Isle of Wight and had fond memories of growing up in a hotel that was owned by his parents. He spent his summers sailing around the island and always had a great love of the ocean. David’s love for England never faded and he always recounted his past experiences in stories that felt never-ending, but always fascinating.
David, a career accountant, started his first job at Barclays International of London, as well as working in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. He later moved across to the United States settling in a home with a view of the Potomac River in West Virginia. David started his second career in the family real estate business before semi-retiring to support Fairfax and Jefferson County Public Schools System driving buses for children with special needs - his most rewarding role and very close to his heart.
David was a devoted husband, a caring father, and a great friend to many. He is survived by his wife Patricia, his sister Andrea, his daughter Julia, sons Ian, Christian, and Alexander, son-in-law, John, and daughters-in-law, Krystal, Audrey, and Danielle. David was also blessed with 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, all of whom he adored dearly. He is also remembered fondly by his friends, extended family members, and coworkers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Lavinia.
David will be remembered for his passion for Formula One racing, his admiration for the Queen of England and the royal family, and his love of traveling and photography. His hobbies also included solving puzzles, listening to his records, and cooking. He took pleasure in watching various sports, both European and American.
David touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
