Surrounded by his family, David Addison entered into his eternal rest at the age of 75 on February 8, 2021 at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Newnan, Georgia. Betty Dizzley Addison, his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, was by his side through his valiant fight with cancer.

David, the youngest son of Henry, Sr. and Mabel Melton Addison, was born in Bishopville, South Carolina on April 11, 1945. He was educated in the public schools of Lee County, and after graduation served his country in the United States Air Force. He later furthered his education at Florence-Darlington Technical College. For over 40 years, he served the community as a Professional Barber (Addison Barber Shop) and as a businessman (Addison Beauty and Barber Supply, and Addison Salon). He also used his many talents in various businesses, such as repairing electronic devices (e.g., televisions) and woodcrafting.

After his military service, he returned to Bishopville to make a home for his family. He was an active member of the Lee County Democratic Party and worked tirelessly to ensure that the priorities of local officials reflected the interests of his community. In 1998, David was elected to the Lee County Council, representing District 3, which he served with dedication for 22 years. His public service as a county councilman resulted in the development of public transportation, improvements in parks and recreation (e.g Chappell Park and other parks across the county), and additional funding for the restoration of Ashwood Gym, among many other notable achievements. He represented Lee County on the Santee Wateree Regional Transportation Authority (SWRTA) and Santee-Lynches Regional Council of Government, and worked diligently on many other committees.

He was a faithful member of Jamestown Road Church of God in Bishopville, and later at Sixth Street Church of God in Hartsville, SC, where he enjoyed teaching others the Bible in Sunday School. At Jamestown Road Church of God, he served as a chairman of the building committee through a major renovation. His church family at Sixth Street Church of God also benefited from his service as a deacon and chairman of the Men's Brotherhood. On the state level, he served as Trustee Board Chairman, and as a member of the Council of the SC Presbytery of the Church of God.

While quiet by nature, his love for God and others was evident in his teaching and the life he lived. He enjoyed talking with others, often for hours at a time, about his love for the Lord. It was always his heart’s desire that everyone live their lives for the Lord. Regardless of the setting; in the barbershop, in the community, in church or at home, he made sure that everyone he encountered had an opportunity to know the Lord and experience His gracious pardon for their sin.

.David will be missed by many and most importantly his family. In addition to his wife he leaves to cherish his loving memory and continue his legacy, one son David (Tonya) Addison, Bishopvile, SC; two daughters: Jawondolyn (Paul) McAllister, Charlotte, NC, Lakisha (Travis) Bonner, Fayetteville, GA; a special cousin raised in the home as a daughter, Tosha Clyburn Coleman, Alexandria, VA; ten grandchildren: Briyana (Kenneth) Stegall, Paul Langston McAllister, Jawuanna McAllister, Brytton Coleman, Brennen McAllister, Rachel McAllister, Taylor Bonner, Anthony Addison, Aaden Addison, and Noah Bonner; a grandson, Landon Stegall; six sisters: Annie Lou Carter, Ida Mae March, Ella Mae(Russell) Issac, Emma (William) Smith, Mamie Hickmon, and Juanita (David) Bradley; one brother, Henry (Rosa) Addison; two sister-in-laws: Glenda (Walter) Jefferson, and Cynthia (Willie) Davis; two brother in laws: James Edward (Linda) Dizzley, and Russell (Gracie) Dizzley. He also leaves nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives, friends, church family as well as the community he served.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Rosa Lee (James) Evans, and Azalee Morgan; and one brother Robert (Willie Mae) Addison.
