Dave's obituary
David (“Dave”) T. Schubert, September 9, 1973-January 5, 2023.
Dave left us January 5th. We are heart broken. He was the son of a military family and traveled the world. At an early age Dave got his first camera to capture it all.
He was a true artist. Our family continues to be moved by how Dave touched so many people with his kind spirit. They felt seen, known, and celebrated by him. We are awed by how beautifully he did that.
He has exhibited locally at Electric Works, the Luggage Store, the Shooting Gallery, the Geary Gallery and nationally at Kavi Gupta in Chicago, FUSE in New York, Mudd Guts in New York, and New Image Art in Los Angeles. Dave’s photographs have been featured in publications such as Anthem, Arktip, Purple Magazine, Plaza, ANP Quarterly, and he contributed to Thrasher and Slap Magazines among others.
He had an unmatched ability to notice things on a deep level. He could see it all--and more than just see it, he would make a photo of it and turn normalcy into poetry in 1/60th of a second. Dave is known as one of the kindest human beings, generous--and with a seemingly unending well of sweetness, earnestness, and forthrightness… an unstoppable force of positivity.
Predeceased by his father, Richard Schubert. Survived by his Mom, Marilyn Schubert, sisters Natalie and Jody Schubert, and nephew Jonah Powers.
Dave will be cremated. A memorial event for him in San Francisco will be announced at a later date through his sister, Natalie’s Instagram account, “CaptGalactic.”
