How you can help
In Loving Memory of Dave
Dave fought a courageous battle through some of life’s greatest challenges. In 2013, he was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, a neuro-muscular disease, and in 2019, he faced Merkle Cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. Despite these hardships, and even after a severe bout with Covid-19 that landed him in the ICU, Dave’s spirit remained unbroken. He endured serious side effects from treatments and often struggled with debilitating fatigue that made even climbing the stairs nearly impossible.
Throughout it all, Dave’s greatest concern and motivation was Lydia, his beloved granddaughter, whom he and Jeanne have lovingly raised since she was a baby. After Lydia’s father passed away, Dave stepped into the role of “Grampy” with unwavering devotion, ensuring Lydia always felt loved and supported.
Dave cherished every moment with Lydia. He took her on her first roller coaster ride at Canobie Lake Park, spent afternoons at the local clay store making ceramics, and helped her with math and science fair projects—together, they even made slime. He bought her, her first iPad, took her to the Museum of Science, and taught her to play cards. Together, they chose a rescue puppy, Millie, who quickly became an important member of the family.
He loved attending Lydia’s plays and recitals, sometimes needing help to his seat, but never missed a chance to support her. They enjoyed fireworks on the Fourth of July, and Dave found a music school where Lydia could take singing lessons. He attended every lesson he could, saying he enjoyed simply sitting in the waiting room and listening.
Each night, Lydia and Millie would visit Dave’s room to deliver water and share hugs. Their nightly banter—“I love you Grampy…” “I love you more…” “No, I love you more, you’re the best…”—was a treasured routine.
No one doubts that Dave’s determination to stay with us as long as he did was fueled by his love for Lydia and his desire to watch her grow up. A lifelong learner, Dave valued education deeply and worked to instill that same curiosity and passion for learning in Lydia.
If you wish to honor Dave’s memory, the family invites you to consider a donation to Lydia’s Education Fund, helping to continue the legacy of love, learning, and encouragement that Dave so wholeheartedly embodied.
