I’m so sorry for your loss. Mr. Durrant was my grade 9 science teacher he was extremely hard on me and I was just as difficult. 20 years later I realized that he saw so hard on me because he saw my potential. I want to say thank you for turning me into the man I am today, I wish I could tell you this in person thank you I know you’re in a better place. God bless

My condolences to the family. I'm sorry that I am really late in hearing the news and I was really sad when I have found out. I was one of his students during his last year of teaching before he retired.
Mr. Durrant was the only teacher I truly admired during my time at JJ. He taught me science, robotics, and, most importantly being able to be part of his Albert Einstein Club. Being in his class was always a blast, and I often found myself arriving early just to chat with him before the rest of the students arrived. Unlike other teachers, he pushed me to learn and study harder. I greatly admired his passion for his job. He touched many hearts, especially those of his students. His presence profoundly changed me, and I firmly believe that others were equally affected. His legacy will continue to live on, reminding us of the profound influence one person can have on the lives of many.
Thank you for letting me getting to know you. Rest in Peace.Sheena Tabing

I am so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. He was a great guy with a kind heart. I had the privilege of teaching with him in the early years of Our Lady of Peace. My son James had him as a grade 9 Science teacher. His dedication and professionalism to his students and teaching was very apparent. In later years at OLP, I was fortunate to work with Tammy and have her as a member of our Grade 1 team. Love you girl! Wishing you and your family peace and comfort during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Rest in peace Dave!

We are so sorry for your loss. Our son Ethan was a student of Mr. Durant's in math and the robotics club at MonsignorJJO'Brien. Today, Ethan is in the Schulich School at the U of C for Mechatronics Engineering because of Mr. Durant's teaching and fostering our son's passions. Our family will always be grateful for him.

To the family.... You have my deepest condolences. Dave and I worked together for a number of years at Monsignor J. J. O'Brien. I remember his wonder of science, his well organized room and his high expectations. He had a true love for teaching. And most important was his deep love of family. He spoke with such pride about his children. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

I first met Dave Durrant at St. Jude School when he was assigned as the Vice Principal. His command of the curriculum was second to none in our District. I quickly learned a great deal about his teaching and life experiences. Dave was an expert in all the subjects he taught, such as math, science, PEd. etc.
Dave was a good athlete but I am sure his favorite sport was golf. We played in many District Golf Tournaments together and we actually won the Tournament one year. I will never forget the time Dave and I golfed with his son Matt. Matt was about 10 years old. Before the game I told Matt that I would give him 1 dollar for every hole he could out drive me or got a better score on any hole. Well at the end, I owed him six dollars. When Matt was older he bought a set of Taylormade golf clubs and of course, Dave would borrow them. This was because Dave only had his old small wooden drivers which were not up to 'Par'.
I also had the honor and privilege of teaching with Dave's wife Judy at St. Catherine. Judy was a living Saint to all around her, Unfortunately, in 1992 Judy passed away at our school. The entire school community of students, parents and staff were totally grief stricken.
I also met Tammy at one of her schools. You could tell that her character was a combination of both Dave and Judy with qualities of patience, kindness and love. All the qualities of Jesus. Tammy, you may not know that Dave took me to High River to help find your first car.
I will miss Dave's infectious spirit of giving, his wit, humor, friendship and expertise towards others. I know Dave is now with Judy and Jesus.
God Bless you Dave!
Respect and Love. Ed Schell

Dave taught me Science and Robotics when I was at Monsignor J.J. O’ Brien. Looking back on it, I could always tell that he had a passion for what he taught and he cared about his students. Always had a fun and memorable time in his class.
May eternal rest grant unto him O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him.
Requiescat in pace.

I am saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Durrant. He was my home room and science teacher at Monsignor J.J. O’Brien School from 2011-2014, where my love for science grew. Mr. Durrant had the incredible ability of seeing the potential in his students and supporting them with their passions. He was full of excitement to teach and always ready to help his students succeed. He has touched the lives of so many and will be remembered fondly. I am sending my thoughts and prayers to his friends and family. He will be dearly missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Dave at Mon. J.J. O'Brien School. Dave was an incredible mentor to all of the Science teachers and such an inspiration to his students. He was truly a compassionate and loving man. I remember one Christmas there was a family who did not receive anything. Dave anonymously and generously donated some beautiful toys to the family, he touched my heart with his kindness. Rest peacefully in the arms of God, Dave. My deepest condolences to the family.

Dave and I opened Our Lady of Peace together and collaborated in Science between elementary students and his Jr. High students. He was a teacher who taught children, not a subject first. He was motivated in his teaching because he wanted to make a difference and believed in students. He set high bars and proceeded to help them reach success. He started out as a colleague and became a friend. I have so many fond memories of all the busy times in getting a new school up and running but more I remember the laughs and truly knew he was standing right beside you in every situation. He became very chatty when he talked about all of you: your achievements, passions, the kind of people you were, and were becoming. Most of all you brought him joy. May God wrap His arms around each of you and give you the grace to carry him in your hearts, memories and knowing his essence lives in you.
Love and prayers

To Dave’s family: I taught with your dad for a few years at Our Lady of Peace. He was always a kind and gentle colleague, and he was a dedicated Science teacher and a man of faith. Most of all, his greatest joy and source of pride was all of you. He never failed to beam with pride when he spoke of each of you. Please know that you all are in my prayers as you bear this loss, and may your dad be resting in the arms of the Father and rejoicing at seeing his beloved Judy yet again. God bless you all.
