Daryl Alan Wein, 73, passed away on November 21, 2025, in Modesto, California.
Born on April 1, 1952, Daryl’s life was marked by an insatiable curiosity and a passion for adventure. He began his educational journey at Modesto Union Elementary School and Modesto Union Academy before earning degrees from University of California, Riverside, and U.C. Davis School of Medicine.
Daryl began his medical career as a clinical laboratory scientist at Modesto City Hospital, then Doctors Medical Center, and finally Oak Valley Hospital. From 1999 until his retirement in early 2025, Daryl dedicated himself to healthcare as a Physician Assistant with Drs. David Olson and Elaine Madayag, contributing to all aspects of internal medicine including in-office surgery. His commitment extended beyond this one practice; he also served patients at Stanislaus County Urgent Care, Oak Valley Hospital ER, Central California Bariatric Surgery, rural health clinics run by Oak Valley Clinics, and as a contractor for California Correctional Health Care System. In 2016, he authored Type 2 Diabetes: The Owner’s Manual.
A man of many talents, Daryl held a commercial pilot’s license from the age of 18 and became a flight instructor at 19. By 20, he had developed Regional Aviation Ground Schools. He also pursued his musical talents professionally.
Daryl's impact reached into his community through volunteer roles such as CME Chairman for the Stanislaus Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Network, audio visual technician at Crossroads Grace Community Church, and secretary for Bible Study Fellowship (BSF International) for the Modesto Men’s Class. He was a member of Modesto Central Seventh-day Adventist Church in his early years, and in his later years he joined Crossroads Grace Community Church.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Jann Elaine Wein; daughter Nakita Wein Mallory; step-sons Jason and Jeremy Zumsteg; step-son Andrew Rossman (Kelli); granddaughter Olivia Mallory and step-grandchildren Jacob, Hailey, and Colton Rossman; sisters Pati Tresenriter (Matt) and Jan Moorehouse (Richard); and by nieces and nephews Michael Karman (Laurel McSpadden), Dr. Megan Tresenriter, and Dr. Brandon Tresenriter (Robin Nguyen). He was preceded in death by his parents, John C. and Berniece N. Wein, and an infant sister, Rhonda Jean Wein.
A celebration of life is planned for early 2026 (TBA). Daryl’s dedication to his patients and his vibrant storytelling and loving spirit will long be cherished by all who knew him.
