Daryl's obituary

Our family is sad to announce the death of Daryl Jack Hudson III, 70, on February 2nd, 2023, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Daryl was a successful attorney, entrepreneur, and historian, but music was the abiding passion of his life. He played a number of instruments, including piano and drums. but the guitar became his greatest joy from the moment he saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964. Self-taught, talented, and accomplished, he took pride in his many quality guitars.

Daryl was born October 17th, 1952, in Dallas, Texas to Mary Margaret Heath (Hudson) and Daryl Jack Hudson, Jr. He graduated from Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City, Class of 1971, and studied history at The University of Oklahoma, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in three years. Continuing his history studies in an M.A. program at The University of Texas, Austin, Daryl worked closely with Walt Rostow, former National Security Advisor to President Johnson, who was to become his mentor. After graduate school, he entered Georgetown Law school in Washington, D.C, where he would make his home the next forty years.

Daryl began his law career with Bracewell Patterson in D.C. before moving to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Enforcement Division. He would eventually build his own businesses in law and financing.

He was active at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Northwest D.C. for many years and remained active in the music ministry at Episcopal Church of Ascension, Clearwater, Florida, where he lived his last years.

Daryl was a talented musician and writer who composed his own music and performed regularly. He traveled the world extensively, remaining especially fond of London.

He is survived by two daughters, Erin Queally and Anna Dorothea, one son, one grandchild, three siblings and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Daryl’s name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at https://pancan.org/.
