Darryl's obituary
Darryl Desmond Buchanan, 75, of Chilliwack, BC passed away on August 7, 2023.
Darryl was born on July 9, 1948 in Matsqui, BC to Desmond Buchanan and Irma Buchanan (née Zurowsky).
He married Barbara Kay Sharp, his high school sweetheart, on November 4, 1970.
Darryl and Barbara lived for several years in Toronto, where Darryl managed a pizza restaurant and attended technical school.
After taking a job fixing typewriters at IBM, he was transferred first to Edmonton, and then back home to BC, where Darryl and Barbara bought a house in Langley and raised their two children.
Darryl was a devoted employee; he provided award-winning service as both a technician and later as a project manager for over thirty years.
He retired early due to the effects of Parkinson’s disease, a condition he lived with for more than three decades.
Nothing was more important to Darryl than his family.
He was a caring son, a devoted brother, a loving husband, a wonderful father, a proud grandfather, and a friend to all.
His kindness and compassion, his patience and perseverance, and perhaps especially his optimism, while enduring the challenges that come with Parkinson’s, were and continue to be truly uplifting.
Darryl’s Christian faith was a source of strength that guided his actions, as did his belief in the power of kind words and good deeds in everyday life.
Darryl is survived by his wife Barbara, his son David, his daughter Pamela, his sister Laverne, his nieces Christie, Michelle, and Laura, and his grandchildren Megan, Skye, Sloane, Martin, and Izabela.
Darryl also touched the lives of countless other family members, coworkers, friends, neighbours, and acquaintances.
Darryl’s passing is a great loss, and it is with great sadness that his family publishes this notice.
Besides his thoughtful manner and kind heart, we miss his sense of humour and love of sweets, as well as his interest in old westerns, new technologies, and current events.
But following in his footsteps, inspired by his positivity and joyfulness, we intend to both remember and celebrate his life.
In this light, a celebration of Darryl’s life will be held at Coast Chilliwack Hotel (45920 First Ave, Chilliwack, BC V2P 7K1) on August 20 from 2:00-4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Parkinson Canada (https://www.parkinson.ca)
