Darrell's obituary

Darrell Keith Wells, 57, of Greenville, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025 in Greenville, Texas. A visitation will be 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be at Higher Trails Cowboy Church at 5544 FM 903, Celeste, Texas 75423 on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11:00 A.M.

Darrell was born on October 12, 1967, in Mesquite, Texas to George Russell Wells and Carolina Francis Huff Wells. He married the love of his life Tracy Lynn Neal on August 3, 1991 in Greenville, Texas. He worked for the Dallas Morning News since 1988, recently retiring. He was a member of Higher Trails Cowboy Church.

He is survived by his wife, Tracy Wells of 34 years, his sons Justin Wells and Tyler Wells, his daughter in law Kelsi Wells and his grandchildren Brandon, Braelynn and Bryer Wells. Darrell's favorite role was that of a grandparent. He treasured his time with his grandkids including his bonus grandkids Bryson Porter, Liam Mcspadden, Noah, Elijah and Ezra Lane. Alison and Layla Kirby, Jack and Mason Greer. He loved being their pop. He is also survived by his sisters Rhonda Weeks her husband Jason Weeks and her son Matthew McFarland, Raina Hill her boyfriend Matt Stephens, her son Corbin Hill and his wife Alexis Hill. Darrell had a soft spot for his fury friend Dixie pup.

Everyone who knew Darrel knew how much he loved traveling with his wife and friends on his motorcycle. Such as the time when they rode 300 miles in the wrong direction while following "turn around Danny" to Devil's Tower. Although it was not ideal Darrell enjoyed every mile and every chance to admire the scenery.

Darrell will always be remembered for his hard-working ethics, love for teaching his kids and grandkids and always helping others. We'll always imagine hearing him say "Ha! You got in trouble, Carpe Diem, SNAP! and come here let me give you a soda pop" one more time. We couldn't imagine a better spouse, father, pop, brother or friend and will miss Darrel every day. Darrell's memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father George Wells, mother Carolina Huff, brother Russell Wells, father-in-law David Neal and brother-in-law Casey Neal.
