Darrell's obituary

Darrell Eugene Vaughn was born January 15, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri to Norman Edward and Joycelee Vaughn. He passed peacefully surrounded by family on January 13, 2023.

He is proceeded in death by his Father Norman, Sister-in-Law Mary Lynn, Mother-in-law MaryLou, and Father-in-Law Chester. He is survived by his Wife, Kelli Vaughn of the home, his Mother Joycelee Vaughn, his Brother Eddie Vaughn, Sister Deb Gosoroski (Joe), Sister-in-Law Patti Nachbar (John), Sister-in-Law Debbi Skahan (Larry), Sister-in-Law Berni Jones (Mike), Brother-in-Law Chip Malinowski (Denise), Sons Brian Vaughn (Kristina) and Jason Vaughn (Jessi), Grandchildren Gabby, Cody, Paige (Dakota), Hailey, Rylee Jewel, Rylee Michelle, and Presley, a Great-Grandson Cooper and many Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, and Friends.

Darrell graduated from East High School in Kansas City Missouri in 1969. He then served in the Air Force Reserves. He began his life long career in data center operations at Montgomery Ward beginning in the warehouse on roller skates. From there he worked for TWA and then retired from Sprint in 2008. Darrell was an excellent Wood Craftsman and restored many pieces of antique furniture. Many of you have some of his work in your homes today. He loved collecting antique radios, model cars, playing cards, soda glasses, Chicago World’s Fair items, and old signs. He was a lover of auctions, music, and poker with his Poker Buddies.

If you have ever spent at least 10 minutes with Darrell, you definitely laughed. If you spent 25 minutes with him then I’m sure you heard some of his tall tales! Some of those tales would include his wife Kelli. His love for Kelli was like no other. They took care of each other and laughed and loved more in their 33 years than most get in a lifetime. Some of those tales may have shown his pride for his two sons. He loved his “buds”, Brian and Jason, and were so proud of the men and fathers they have become. To his grandchildren, he was Poppa D. Nothing in this world could brighten his face like a visit from one of his grandkids or watching them in ball games and dance recitals.

Honoring and saying goodbye to a man like Darrell Vaughn is impossible. We will do our best by sharing our memories of him in a Celebration of Life on Saturday February 25th, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Hoot’s Hollow 20800 E 215th ST, Harrisonville, MO 64701.
