Darrell was born December 8, 1949, in Manitowoc, WI, the fourth of four children born to the late Joseph and Virginia (Webb) Stoehr. He grew up and attended schools in Manitowoc, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1968.
In high school he met the love of his life, Rosanna “Zanna” (Rosinsky). They soon became a source of love and companionship for each other that lasted throughout life. They were married July 19, 1969, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. The following year, Darrell and Zanna welcomed their son Craig into their lives. Their second son, Darrick, was born seven years later.
In 1972, the family moved to California’s San Francisco Bay area, settling in Sunnyvale. Darrell secured a job that he loved as an experimental welder at SRI International in Menlo Park where he built a meaningful career spanning 42 years, retiring in 2014. In Sunnyvale, they bought a home and raised a family.
A dedicated and devoted family man, Darrell spent his evenings and weekends enjoying time with his family and tight circle of friends. He went to every one of his son's games, joined them in sports at local parks, worked on home projects, and enjoyed time with family friends. He and Zanna provided a happy, safe and stable home in which the family thrived. After their sons had started out on their own, Zanna unfortunately contracted a debilitating, incurable disease. Darrell took care of her until the end of her life.
Darrell was good at building and fixing things, both at work and at home. He had natural curiosity about how things worked, how they were built, and how they could be improved upon. He put that skill into practice daily, both at work and at home. He was quick to offer a helping hand. He was always willing to help people with whatever project they had, whether it was a major home repair need, a small home improvement project, or a broken-down car.
In later years, he met and found companionship with Martha Guerra. He enjoyed spending time with her and her family, working on his bonsai trees and garden at home, and driving over to Half Moon Bay in his RV. He also loved traveling to visit his sons and their families, attending his grandchildren’s milestone events, and even traveling abroad to explore new countries.
Above all, Darrell was a strong, steady, and dependable presence in the lives of everyone around him. He was generous, hardworking, conscientious, reliable, supportive, and an engaged and loving father and grandfather.
Darrell is survived by his and Zanna’s two sons and daughters-in-law: Craig (Lisa) Stoehr of Bend, OR and Darrick (Erica) Stoehr of Temecula, CA; four grandchildren: Craig and Lisa’s children Kaitlyn and Madison and Darrick and Erica’s children Donovan and Aubrie. Survivors also include two siblings: brother Duane Stoehr, Manitowoc, WI; and Darlene Hako, Sequim, WA. In addition, he will be missed by a host of family and friends including his dear companion and her four daughters: Martha Guerra, Sunnyvale, CA and daughters Brenda, Jennifer, Brooke, and Elizabeth. Darrell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rozanna (Rosinsky) Stoehr and one brother: Donald Stoehr.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on November 25th at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Los Altos and his home in Sunnyvale, CA.
We say goodbye with heavy hearts, but also gratitude for the time we shared and the indelible impact he had in our lives.
