Darrell's obituary

Darrell Maurice Meyer II, 58, of Denver, CO (originally from Carmichael, CA) passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his wife and children after a short, but courageous battle with cancer on December 21, 2021.

He was born to Darrell and Ivenna Meyer on Sept. 16, 1963 in Sacramento, CA. He grew up in Carmichael, CA, and graduated from La Sierra High School in 1982. In April 1984, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served until 1988 as an E-4 enlisted sailor.

While serving, Darrell exchanged letters for a few years with his then girlfriend, Julie. It was in the beginning of 1988 that he decided to make Colorado his permanent home where he and Julie moved in together. She proposed to him in February, and on Nov. 12, 1988 he and Julie wed.

Darrell had a life-long passion for truck driving. He worked as a truck driver for over 25 years but was forced to give up this passion due to health conditions. Darrell loved working with his hands, and he did not let his health stop him from doing so. Shortly thereafter he found another passion: freight-handling, a capacity in which he worked for another 5 years.

Darrell’s biggest interests were baseball, and anything relating to history, science, and Star Trek. He was a loyal, life-long, San Francisco Giants fan and was particularly fond of Scotty, because he could relate to him. Darrell was always the one to have an answer to any question. Literally. You could ask him a question about toothpicks, and he would, without fail, have an answer.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 33 years Julie (Hathaway), son Nicholas (24), daughter Catherine (28), sisters Debbie, Camille, and April Caroline, brother Chris, nephew Brandon, great-niece Victoria, and many other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Darrell and Ivenna, and sister Terry. He was a loving husband, father, and an even kinder friend.

A service honoring and remembering Darrell will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery on Jan. 14, 2022 at 3:00pm, with a reception to follow. Darrell expressed that not enough was being done to help fight climate change. So, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Clean Air Task Force (https://www.catf.us/)
