Darrell's obituary
Darrell Edmund Grosz, 81, of Casselbury, FL, was released from his earthly body on February 24, 2026, after 10 days attempting to recover from a heart attack. He was a faithful servant of God, a devoted husband, a dedicated father, and a proud grandfather. A two-time cancer survivor, his resilience and strength were inspirational to all those who witnessed his journey.
Darrell was born in Dearborn, Michigan, on April 12, 1944, to Edmund and Erna Grosz. He was extremely proud to hold a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!), and enjoyed a rewarding, 29-year career in music education. He set an example to follow your passion throughout life, performing his final concert in December 2025, at the age of 81, with the Central Florida Community Arts Symphony Orchestra, an organization to which he was extremely proud to belong.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda, whose love and devotion helped Darrell receive more out of his life than he ever could have imagined. He is also survived by his brother, Donald, his children, Lisa, Ted, Damon, and Jordan, his grandchildren, hundreds of students for whom he cared deeply, and all but 14 or 15 of the Michigan walleye population from 1990 - 2010. His life was filled with the gifts of a loving family, good friends, esteemed colleagues, cherished students, fellow musicians, tennis partners, and fishing buddies. If you played one or more of these roles, know that he treasured you. He always lit up at the chance to meet and interact with others. He got to experience triumph and defeat, celebration and struggle, peace and unrest. Through it all, he maintained God and family as priorities and had a unique ability to keep life simple in that respect. We should all be so blessed as he!
A funeral service for Darrell will be held on March 28, 2026, at 11:00am at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 2140 FL-434, Longwood, FL, 32779. In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests you honor Darrell’s life by making a donation to cancer research or to your local public school band program.
