My Dear Sister Darnelle, Today has been hard. Remembering you on your birthday, with tears running down. I just wish I could give you a big hug and tell you Happy Birthday. I want to tell you also how much I love you and how very much I miss you. December was always your month. Your birthday, your anniversary with Dick, your yearly trek to Vegas, and the beautiful Christmas Eve celebrations you gave to our family. I miss that the most at Christmas time. It was what kept us all a united family. We could go months without seeing one another but every year we could count on your gift to us all. The gathering, in your home on Christmas Eve. Every year without fail. You worked so hard to make it happen. Your beautiful decorations, all the delicious food you prepared, your warm welcome to all of us to come inside your loving comfortable home. The joy you gave us every year to celebrate the birth of Christ and to celebrate our loving family, is something none of us will every forget. It's where all of our best memories were made. We don't do that anymore. Our family is so much smaller now. The maker of our happy family memories, You are gone. Mom and Dad are gone. Gary and Shawn are gone. Sometimes I feel like an orphan. All I want to do is call my big sister. But I can't. You are gone. In my heart, I know you are in a perfect place. A place where I look forward to joining you some day. I hope you can feel my love and my hug and hear my song to you...Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy Birthday sweet Darnelle, Happy birthday to you!! I love you my Sister. I love you so much!!

We had breakfast several weeks before she passed. It was our usual conversation. Darnelle didn’t share how sick she was. I am sad I didn’t not get to give her a final hug. Love to her family 💕

Darnelle and I had a long friendship starting at the Forum. I relied on her frequently because she always had “the answer” and could fix most anything. After our retirements our friendship continued. We met monthly for breakfast and to ‘catch up’ on our lives. She shared her declining health issues and concerns with me. I was not aware of her rapid decline and missed saying goodbye. I know she loved her birthday and visits to Las Vegas.
Happy birthday dear friend. I hope you are playing the slots today and are at peace in your heavenly home.💕Kathleen B

When Darnelle spent a few days with me at my place in Show Low. Together, just her and I, we made some of the best memories I have of her. Oh, how I miss her.
