The picture captures “my special whimsical friend “ who partnered with me to volunteer at film festivals, golf tournaments, work at the Uptown Theatre, attend beauty open houses, and would bake wonderful bread filled with love. She has a special part of my heart. “I miss you My Friend—yet I have to smile when I remember your quirky ways!”

My friend there are no words. Thank you for blessing my life.
So very sad to hear that our sweet vivacious Darla is no longer with us, what a loss to all of us.

Darla being extra sweet to her Auntie Anna
We are very surprised and very sad to hear of Darla's passing because she had been at work with us at the Uptown Theatre in Napa earlier this month. Darla was an enthusiastic member of the Uptown team, always with a smile and a fun hat. We will miss her bubbly personality and her great style. Our sincere condolences.

I first met Darla when she was 19 at PUC back in the 70s. It wasn’t until the 80s when we were both at Loma Linda and became close friends. She was the the perfect combination of so many things. Natural beauty, a warm and caring heart and someone you could trust. You always knew she had your back. My deepest condolences go out to Don and the family.

I’ve been thinking a lot abou…
I’ve been thinking a lot about my friend Darla this last week. Remembering our friendship. Trying to wrap my mind around the loss of her. We were roommates and friends through dental hygiene and nursing. She was so excited to start her profession, and amazingly she was still very excited about dental hygiene until she was forced into early retirement. She greatly missed the interaction with her patients, whom she loved. Enthusiasm and loyalty are two words to describe Darla. She LOVED being Norwegian. She took every opportunity to share foods and words from her heritage. She loved that she was descended from seafarers, sharing a book about her Norweigian sea captain grandfather with my son, a merchant mariner. She loved her family--spending hours keeping her parents’ home in shape. Proudly sharing each article that mentioned her brother Don’s accomplishments, of which there were many. She enthusiastically took up causes--donating her time to the Napa Marathon, The Upton Theater in Napa, helping to plan class reunions, helping and supporting friends who were too ill to care for themselves. She was an enthusiastic driver--which generally terrified me. To say that I have regrets would be an understatement--I wish I had taken better care of my friend. My hope is that this tragedy, this loss will help me be a better friend. Godspeed my dear Darla. “Since the loss of you, I’ve learned to live for each day and take it as a blessing, Knowing it may not always be this way. “Since the loss of you, I’ve learned a life can be taken in the blink of an eye And only Heaven really knows when that person will have to say “goodbye”. Darla's energy and smile are what I always remember about her. She could make you laugh tell you cried. She was a good supportive friend and put her whole heart into whatever she believed in. She will be deeply missed.
