Daria's obituary
In Loving Memory of Daria Bystrianyk
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Daria Bystrianyk, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Dozia, nee Theodosia Daria Dziubina, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 10, 2024, at the age of 92.
Dozia was born on April 2, 1932, in Stanislav (Ivano-Frankivsk) in the western part of Ukraine. She grew up with a deep love for nature and the arts, which she carried with her throughout her life. Dozia’s early years were marked by her resilience and a strong connection to land, culture, and family.
In 1958, Dozia married the love of her life, Wasyl Bystrianyk. Their marriage was a testament to true partnership. Together, they raised five wonderful children: Orest, Lesia, Roman, Natalia, and Nadia. Daria’s family was the center of her world, and she devoted herself to nurturing, guiding, and supporting them in all their endeavors. Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother.
Dozia was a polyglot, a world traveler, and in her later years an artist and writer. Her book Through the Eyes of a Child is a profound look into the life of a child living in Europe during the trials and tribulations of WWII and is a precious keepsake for generations to come.
Dozia was known for her warm heart and generous spirit, and her amazing Ukrainian and Polish cooking: a tradition her descendants practice to this day, and will miss greatly. She was a mentor to many, always ready with a listening ear and wise advice. Her home was always a place filled with culture, love, and the aroma of her famous borscht and pirohe.
In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with the Ukrainian community she nurtured in Florida, and loved doting on her five children and six grandchildren. She protested in person and online the War in Ukraine and was a passionate activist for her homeland’s freedom. She was an accomplished crochet artist and made amazing and lasting works of art with embroidery.
Dozia is survived by her devoted husband, Wasyl; her children, Orest, Lesia, Roman & wife Michelle, Natalia, and Nadia & husband Jared; her grandchildren, Bryan, Miranda & husband Phoenix, Kyle, Dylan, Fionna, and Theodora; and her wide circle of family members and friends. She will be missed deeply by all who knew her.
Dozia touched the lives of many with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to family and heritage. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
May she rest in peace.
