Daniel's obituary

Daniel Arthur Thompson was born June 3, 1959. He was a joyful, beautiful baby, never a moment's trouble!

He grew good and strong after a brief hospitalization during his first year to the delight of his parents, brothers and sisters!

Daniel was named for his father's brother, who was a teenager when he was a killed. As a toddler, Daniel loved to rock in his wooden rocker that was shaped and painted like a white duck.

Daniel enjoyed playing sports--baseball, football, basketball. He was proficient at all of them; he played every sport at a level that many admired/envied. As an adult, he became a valued coach, encouraging and mentoring young athletes to be all that they could be with confidence and compassion. He also became a galvanizing force in the community, working in various elected officials offices for the benefit of the people. He was proud of his many accomplishments and he always strove to improve the status quo for everyone!

On January 10th, 2023, Daniel departed this life as he had lived it, in his own truth. He left behind three sisters (Marsha Woods, Marla London, and Toya Thompson), four brothers (Michael Jones, Jonathan Thompson Jr. (Norma Jean), Jeffrey Thompson, and Chauncey Thompson). His mother and father ( Jonathan and Martha Thompson) and two sisters ( Jocelyn Thompson and Cheryl Thompson) preceded him in death.

In Daniel's memory, a scholarship fund has been established to continue his commitment to youth and the community. This scholarship will support a graduating Wolverine as they begin their college education.
