We didn’t have a lot growing up, and most of our money needed to go to necessities. In the late '90s to early '00s, like most children, I was infatuated with Pokémon cards. My mother wasn’t too keen on purchasing pieces of cardboard and didn’t want to waste money on purchasing me cards. As an adult, I completely agree with my mother; however, kid-brained me was upset.
One evening after coming home from elementary school, Daniel came into our shared room with the largest stack of Pokémon cards I had ever seen. Given how excited I was, Dan might as well have been carrying a briefcase filled with a million dollars. Dan collected the cards from the kids in his high school, some through bartering and others through more intimidating means.
I learned two things from this memory: Dan would always find his own way to solve an issue, and my brother loved me and wanted to nurture my personal interests no matter what it took.
I love you, Dan.
