He was one of the American Man in Cagliari, in my football team, CRUSADERS. I will never forget his smile…

Dan was there the first night I spent in the US and was the first American I had spent a lot of time with. We became close thanks to Grazia, and for me he represented what America is great for: a great heart, a great curiosity for all the other cultures, and a simplicity in the way the world should be look at. Dan, thanks for the time we spent together, please prepare the coffee machine for when we meet again. Grazia, I'm sorry for your loss. Matteo

Dan.....great intellect, huge heart, such fun to be around, and always shining his bright light on others. He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.
Dan was one of the most positive, cheerful and happy people I ever met. His eagerness to always look at the light side of things with an easy laugh was just contagious and you always knew you could count on him to make your day a bit brighter. We need more people like him in this world.

Dan, if you can read this from wherever you are, man, we'll miss you. I miss you. Here's a virtual huge hug to you. Your friend always - Carlos

From Dan's trip to SF for my wedding. One of my favorite of my handsome brother.
I met Grazia before I met Dan. In the cafeteria of the Thurston-Bowles Bldg., I remember this incredibly energetic Sardinian, just emerged from moving her family from Miami to NC, trying to convince me - at the time a relative "stranger" - that I was not meant to spend my life alone. Then, I got to meet Dan. And Sara, and Erik. And I understood what she meant and why she cared so much. Dan always had a sincere hug ready for me, regardless of how much time had passed since "the last time" ("last picnic? two picnic ago?"). He understood, and he was there to listen to our big and small successes and failures, joys and fears. So I treasure those "small talks", constantly distracted by my two little ones at the Italian picnics, those when he was playing soccer with the kids and those when he was sitting on a chair he didn't choose to use. I consider it a blessing to have had the opportunity to hold his hand after he said goodbye to the pain that was consuming him. That was another one of his hugs, and he was there, for Grazia, Sara, Erik, and all of us, his life and love transformed. He will live forever in our hearts!
Dear Grazia
I am so sorry for your loss and suffering these past year. We wish we could be there for the weekends events and life celebration. We hope that soon we can all meet in Miami.
Love

Just an amalgamation of memories of great conversations about so many different things. He was the Renaissance Man, so well read. I loved talking to Dan. And he was incredibly funny. I can close my eyes and hear his voice. He will truly be missed and remembered.
