Daniel's obituary
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Daniel "Dan" or "Rudy" Rodriguez, who left us on March 16, 2025. Born on December 9, 1946, Daniel lived a life of generosity, kindness, and thoughtfulness, impacting many people and communities with his open and humble spirit.
Daniel leaves behind his beloved wife, Stephanie Rodriguez, whom he married in 1969. He was a devoted father to his daughters Aimee Rodriguez and Tami Yi, dear brother to Norma and Suzette, and a fond in-law to Autumn Rodriguez, Linette Rodriguez, and Christian Hotta. His son-in-law David Yi and grandchildren Nathan, Andrew, Lisa, and Jessica Yi brought immense joy, laughter, and amusement to his life. He also leaves behind his nephews and niece James, Alexander, William, Connor, and Summer Rodriguez. He also had a special role as “Uncle Dan” to the Franklin and Cockley families, being in their lives for many family milestones. Daniel was predeceased by his beloved mother, Gloria Rodriguez, father, Jorge Rodriguez, and brother, George Jr. Rodriguez.
A dedicated worker, Daniel started a job at the United States Postal Service on March 7, 1973, the very same day his second child was born. Alongside his professional life, Daniel was an enthusiastic volunteer at various service organizations such as the National AIDS Memorial Grove, St Anthony’s SF Organization, Davis Street Family Resource Center, Project Open Hand, Martin de Porres House of Hospitality, On Lok Organization, Holy Family Day Home, and Dominican Sisters Vision of Hope. His selfless dedication to these causes truly showcased his compassion. It was very natural for him to connect with so many individuals and organizations in need to lend a hand, provide food, and essentials, never wanting recognition for these good deeds.
Daniel was also a sports fan, cheering on both the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Oakland A’s. He enjoyed traveling and outings with his family and their friends. His favorite vacation spots were Maui, Hawaii, Disneyland, Solvang, Monterey, Carmel, Sausalito, Half Moon Bay, Reno, NV. and New Zealand.
Daniel’s greatest accomplishment was the love and unity of those who surrounded him. He was a quiet man who would lean in with a little joke to lighten the mood or a heartfelt compliment to boost your spirit. This humility encapsulated the loving and kind nature that was central to Daniel's persona. His legacy of love and compassion will forever be cherished and upheld by his loved ones.
Towards the end of his life he had a team who took exceptional care of him up to his final days. Our gratitude goes out Lano and Mary and the caregivers at St. Lourdes Home, Crossroads Hospice, John, Chris, Jasandeep, Kanti, Tony, Lyn, Benny, and Dr. Bernaba for their assistance and support rendered to Dan. Also thank you to dear family members, neighbor's, and friends who sent prayers , cards, and gifts to our family. Also thank you to Dan’s classmates of St Ignatius High School who reached out to send us their thoughts and prayers.
Daniel was a man of high virtue and honor, and his life's teachings emphasized the importance of seeing everyone as deserving of love and compassion. Our family has been blessed with such a good man among us, and his teachings on the power of love will continue to guide us. A selfless dedication to these causes truly showcased his compassionate spirit.
