Daniel's obituary
Daniel “Dan” Lawrence Smith, 63, of Dunwoody GA, died February 2, 2022.
Prior to his death, Daniel was employed by Proliant, Atlanta GA, as a Tax Accountant.
Daniel was predeceased by his father, Paul E. Smith, his mother, Helen E. (Reddy) Smith, his brother, Alan J. Smith, and his brother-in-law, Leonard L. Luther, Jr. Daniel is survived by his step-mother, Trudy E. Smith; his siblings and their spouses and children: Mark J. and Lisa (Fulp) Smith, son Ryan Smith, and daughter Amanda Smith; Stephen P. Smith; Paula (Smith) Luther, daughter Megan Luther and fiancé Peter Kirchner, and son Matthew and daughter-in-law Celina (Dziuran) Luther; Douglas Smith and sons Calvin Smith, Miles Smith, and Edgar Smith; Andrew Smith; and Alanna (Smith) and Spenser Noe and son Silas Noe.
Daniel was an avid hiker who spent a lot of his free time exploring, hiking, and camping in the Georgia - North Carolina - Tennessee area, especially in the state and national parks, including portions of the Appalachian Trail, Mingo Falls (Cherokee NC), and the Kephart Prong Trail (Great Smoky Mountain National Park).
Daniel had many interests. He took a number of art classes and enjoyed drawing, specifically the human form, and working in different media. He photographed his hiking trips and enjoyed sharing and talking about the pictures, explaining where he took them. Daniel was very interested in trying, eating, and cooking many kinds of food, exchanging and sharing recipes, trying unique recipes, and trying all kinds of snack foods. He enjoyed all kinds of music.
Daniel was well-read and had an amazing memory and recollection of things that he had experienced, read, seen, or heard. He was very well attuned to and remembered what was going on in other people’s lives and made a point of asking about things the next time he was in contact. The younger members of our family loved talking with Daniel because he really listened to them and often would follow up later with something related to their conversations. Daniel was open-minded, non-judgemental, and was always open to new things. Daniel had a droll, wicked good sense of humor.
Our family has lost our gentle soul. We will miss Daniel very much, but we will keep him close in our hearts and memories. Final arrangements are private and are being handled by SouthCare Cremation and Funeral Society, Alpharetta GA. At this time, our family has not planned a public memorial but will provide updates as appropriate.
In lieu of flowers, our family asks that memorial donations in Daniel’s name be made to:
