Daniel's obituary
Daniel Edward Henry Kemper Sr., age 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 26, 2026.
Born on June 8, 1944, Dan grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and later made his home in Arizona, where he lived from 1984 onward. He was a proud United States Marine, and his service remained an important part of his identity throughout his life.
Dan’s Christian faith was a cornerstone of who he was. He was actively involved in church for much of his life, finding strength, purpose, and community through his faith. One of his favorite verses came from Isaiah:
“They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
—a passage that reflected both his perseverance and his hope.
Dan was an accomplished athlete who loved the game of softball. As a pitcher, he played at a high level, including competing in the Senior World Series, an achievement in which he took great pride. He also had a deep affection for children and delighted in making them laugh, often through his well-known Donald Duck impersonation.
Dan is survived by his children, Laura Schaaf and Dehk Kemper, and by his three granddaughters. He is also survived by his brother, Kenn Kemper.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rosemond Kemper; his brother, Bob Kemper; and his sisters-in-law, Sandy and Marilyn.
A private remembrance will be held by his family.
