The infamous shoulder dislocation. Dan would never stop making fun of me for nearly passing out when it happened ("you're supposed to be a medic!").

Dan is pointing out something important from his past. A shitty apartment? Site of deplorable work conditions? I can't recall.

Our trip to Scotland when I took Dan, his friend Ian Varnes, and Dan's puppy, Tan to John o' Groats on British Rail. We had to ferret out bed and breakfasts where they would let us stay with Dan's dog, Tan.

An LMH 'bop'!
I was so shocked and sad to hear the news about Dan's death. I first met him in 1996 in our first year at LMH. I have such fond memories of that time, and Dan is a big part of them. He was such fun to be around! I have enjoyed reading about his amazing life and achievements since then. He is clearly a great loss to the world. I have been looking through old photo albums of our undergraduate days and have found a couple of Dan - I shall post them now. My thoughts are with his wife, family, friends and colleagues.
Dan was one of the brightest people I have ever met. With every discussion I learned something new. In addition to science, I genuinely loved our conversations about politics and religion from an ever-progressive thinker. While an all-round passionate person, when all was said and done, it was his passion for his beloved Rachel that really spoke to me and warmed my heart. Dan was amazing as an individual and a superpower with her by his side. We should all be so lucky to have that kind of true love and friendship. The world has lost a brilliant mind and compassionate soul too soon, but the impact Dan had will live on.
