Daniel's obituary
Daniel "Danny" Albert Hochstetler passed away at a cardiac ICU hospital in Sacramento on April 4, 2024 due to heart failure. His daughter, Kari Webster, her husband Marshall Webster, and his former wife and great friend, Ann Hochstetler were with him in his final hours. Danny was born December 21, 1959 in San Luis Obispo, CA where he was raised and attended school. He had many aunts, uncles and tons of cousins. He is also survived by his sisters, Julie and Beth, his brother Bob and extended family members. His brother, Randy, predeceased him.
From a young age, Danny was introduced to the love of the outdoors and nature. The thrill of seeing bald and golden eagles and osprey continued throughout his life until the end. He would go fishing alone for hours at a time when the family went camping at Grey's Mountain outside of Oakhurst. That family tradition went on for years and continued after he and Ann were married. It was at Grey's Mountain that he taught a young Kari to fish and start her own love of camping and the outdoors. She was dubbed 'fisher girl'. He also fished San Luis Creek during steelhead runs. His love of fishing would take him to different lakes, rivers and streams in California and beyond. He traveled to Alaska a few times for fishing trips, the last one in 2015 with Kari. He, along with Ann, enjoyed the thrill of salmon fishing on the Campbell River in British Columbia years ago. While cruising in his RV and staying in Winchester Bay, Oregon a few years ago he discovered crabbing with another friend. He had huge crab for dinner just about every night.
In 1968, Danny went through the National Rifle Association marksmanship qualification course and was qualified as a pro-marksman. He hunted with his father and was always ready for quail and deer season to open. In 1976, he completed a San Luis Obispo Co education course for Forestry Conservation Aide and would go on to work for California Conservation Corp for a short time.
His work career included the electrical industry, real estate and finally his other passion - GOLF!! He worked at Chalk Mountain Golf Course for a number of years and handled the multiple golf tournaments and taught golf lessons. He joined a men's golf club and enjoyed many tournaments and made lifelong friends along the way. On 08/24/2002, he aced a hole in one at hole #12 at Chalk Mountain.
For years he made beef jerky. Several years ago he got professional grade equipment and started making large beef jerky batches and loved giving away his product which was so good. He loved a good rib eye steak and Ann's chicken cordon bleu that she started making while they were dating. He loved going to casino's to play video poker and the occasional black jack. The guy was so darned lucky at winning it wasn't funny.
Once he purchased his 1st (used) RV in 2019, he enjoyed traveling to remote places to camp and stay. He upgraded to a larger RV a couple of years ago that gave him so much more room and lived in it on Ann's property when he was not cruising. He spent 2 summers at Hat Creek Recreation Area near Lassen National Park as a volunteer campground host which he loved. He signed up again for this upcoming summer but unfortunately his health problems forced him to cancel that assignment to his great disappointment. While living on Ann's property, 2 of her smaller dogs loved going into the RV to see and stay with him. He called them his RV dogs.
Danny will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him. Your wings were ready but our hearts were not.
