Daniel's obituary
In Loving Memory of Daniel Franklin “Mandible” Hartong
A force of nature, a legend in his own time, and a soul who will never be forgotten.
With hearts full of sorrow and gratitude, we announce the passing of Daniel Franklin “Mandible” Hartong — a truly irreplaceable man who lived boldly, loved fiercely, and left an unforgettable mark on everyone lucky enough to cross his path.
Known widely as “Mandible” and lovingly as “Danielson” by his family, Daniel was a one-of-a-kind presence: raw, real, and radiant. He carried wisdom beyond his years, humor that could heal, and a heart big enough to hold the whole world. He didn’t just have stories — he was a story, unfolding with adventure, courage, love, and depth.
Daniel moved through life with fearless conviction. He was a truth-teller, a seeker, a protector, and a fiercely loyal soul. Whether on the open road, deep in conversation, or surrounded by those he loved, he lived fully — without apology or hesitation. His spirit was magnetic, his laugh contagious, and his ability to connect with others nothing short of profound.
Daniel is survived by his life partner, Nikki Mares, his two cherished children, his loving mother Elisa, his sister Allison, and his nephew Dean — each of whom carry pieces of his light within them. He is preceded in death by his father, Doug Hartong, whose presence Daniel carried with him every step of the way.
To his family, he was Danielson — gentle, loving, and always present. To the world, he was Mandible — fearless, wild, and unforgettable. And to all of us, he was simply extraordinary.
A celebration of Daniel’s life will be held on Saturday, July 19th, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Ski Beach in Incline Village, Nevada.
Friends and loved ones are invited to gather by the water to share stories, laughter, and the love that Daniel gave so freely.
For those interested in honoring Daniel with a round of golf on Friday, July 18th, please reach out to Nikki Mares for details and coordination. This will be the first of hopefully many Hartong Invitationals.
This memorial page is open for all to share memories, reflections, and photos. Because if there’s one thing Daniel taught us, it’s that the best way to honor a life is to keep the stories alive — wild, true, and full of love.
Ride free, Mandible. Rest easy, Danielson. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
