Daniel's obituary
Daniel Leo Flaherty, 68, of Mesa, AZ, left his earthly body on September 23, 2022.
Daniel was born on January 25, 1954 in Manchester, CT, son of Fay E. Flaherty and the late Roger J. Flaherty. In the 1970’s Daniel proudly served in the US Army. Daniel always had a passion for helping others which inspired him to study social work and he went on to get his Masters Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. Daniel was a force of nature, determined to provide for his children and give them the life he felt they deserved. His children meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned was that being a dad was his favorite job. He was unendingly proud of Danielle and Jacqueline and always tried his best to support them.
Daniel was also a passionate runner and could often be found on the road training for a race or marathon. Daniel was very creative, he loved music and was a talented drummer in his younger years, and he also enjoyed painting with watercolors later on in life. Daniel also loved animals and nature and donated to multiple charities that benefited animal welfare and protecting the environment throughout his life. Daniel was very connected to nature, he spent years hiking the White Mountains in New Hampshire, he camped all over the US, and instilled his joy for the outdoors in his children and grandchildren. Anyone who knew Daniel knew that he was kind, generous, and hardworking. Daniel was predeceased by his brothers David J. Flaherty and John J. Flaherty . He is survived by his mother, Fay E. Flaherty; daughter Danielle (Flaherty) Fusco and her husband Dana; his daughter Jacqueline (Sgro) Avdic and her husband Adnan; his beloved grandchildren Samir and Adela; his sister Patricia (Flaherty) Colangelo and her husband Frank; his sister Elaine Flaherty and her husband Joel; many nieces and nephews; and his walking buddy, Murphy, his dog. Daniel made an impact on so many people and will be dearly missed.
