Dan's obituary

Daniel James Clements, 56, a recent transplant to Cortez, FL passed away suddenly on November 19, 2024. A man as unique as Dan, with such wide-ranging life experiences, and strong personality cannot effectively be summed. For all who know him, I know you will understand.

Dan was born, July 9, 1968 to Shirlee Arlene Clum and Carter Norman Clements in San Diego, CA. After moving at a young age to his mother’s native Michigan, Dan graduated from Newaygo High School and shortly after returned to his beloved San Diego where he loved the coast and the desert equally until he returned to Michigan in 2011.

A Horticulturist with Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, Dan retired in 2020. His early career was shaped by wonderful mentors and as a magical ‘jack of all trades’ Dan’s previous handyman and landscaping businesses resulted in countless homes and commercial properties in the greater San Diego area having been touched by his genius. Dan was a deeply spiritual man, full of wisdom and counsel; he was always there to love, support, and help guide all those around him.

2010 brought about the meeting of Dan and Kimberly Colón, of Pt. Reyes, CA. Dan and Kimberly have been partners in life, “through the years of dark and fair weather”, for over 14 years, joyously married in 2018 in Las Vegas, NV. Kimberly was by Dan’s side, holding his hand, as he embarked on his journey to Heaven.

Dan was preceded in heavenly embodiment by his Father, Carter Norman Clements, his precious Mother, Shirlee Arlene Clum, and his beloved Brother David Robert Clements.

Dan is survived by his adoring Wife Kimberly (Colón) Clements, his Nephew Brandon Clements, Niece Christie Clements, Aunt Marty (Clum) Lockery, and a myriad of cousins and dear friends.

In accordance with Dan’s wishes a small, intimate memorial will be held to celebrate his life in February 2025 on Anna Maria Island, FL. For all who would like to honor Dan’s memory I ask you make a donation, in Dan’s name, to:

Gary Sinise Foundation - garysinisefoundation.org

or

Mike Rowe Works Foundation - mikeroweworks.org

Dan had such a deep heart for Veteran’s and all they have gone through, and he believed strongly in encouraging vocational trades.
