We first met Daniel when we picked he and Donna up at the Portland airport. Donna and I are cousins and had not seen each other since she was a teenager. So they decided to visit our state. We enjoyed showing them around and connecting once again. Took them to Mt. Hood and the Timberline Lodge where he looked over the iron work. Also showed them the beach and ocean. We were looking forward to another visit with them.

Dan giving the toast at my wedding reception.
I am so sorry to hear about Dan’s death. He loved family, friends and the outdoors. I have good memories of my high school days and several college weekends. Condolences to Donna and the boys.

Donna and sons, please accept my deepest condolences. Life is so fragile and always too short. May your faith help you grieve and some day find peace. Jeb and Michael take good care of Mom, she's so fortunate to have you with her. God bless you and yours in this time of need. Eileen (Hefke) Pick

Fred and Betty wish to offer our condolences to Donna, Mike and Jed during this difficult time. God be with you and help you cope with this sudden loss.
Donna, Mike Jed, my heart breaks for you. Sudden death, especially in the times we are facing with this virus, leaves us all spinning, heartbroken, and feeling alone. You are not alone your family is near. I wish we could come for the funeral, but with my immune system and health I can't travel. But you "IM" me if you need to talk or just want to know what's up in Michigan. I'll keep you in my prayers, and thoughts. It will take strength and support, but you can keep going. 😪 What is that old saying, one foot in front of the other until your heart heals a bit, you see more sun than gloom, you laugh at your goofy dogs, or find one whole day where you don't think of him, maybe out of the house. Slowly one day may be two. And when you do hopefully it will be of the funny times, good times, goofy stuff, not sad remembrances. Then just keep putting that foot in front of the other.
Donna, Jed, Mike -

Please accept my deepest sympathies for you at this difficult time. Dan clearly loved life and lived it well and passed along that love of life to his friends, students, colleagues and family. His resemblance to his father Gail H, my brother Robert Gail (Dan's first cousin) and our grandfather Gail K. was quite plain to see. My sisters and I (Pamela and Julia) are sad to lose one of our age-mates and cousins. Planting trees in Dan's honor seems like the absolute best thing he would want us to do. Sincerely, Patricia Newcomb, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
Daniel, you were always so welcoming when we came to visit, and I know how excited you were to visit Yellowstone. I'm glad you were in a place you loved.
So sorry Donna, Jed & Michael for the loss of your husband and father. Words are so little comfort at this time of sadness but Dan's memory lives on in all of you.
You all are in our hearts and on our minds.
Peace out Daniel! RIP
