Daniel's obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Daniel Michael Barrins, who left us on August 1, 2024, at the age of 35.
Daniel, lovingly known as Nene, Dan, and Danny, was a cherished son, brother, husband, father, and uncle. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on February 18, 1989, on his father’s birthday, Dan was affectionately referred to as the gift that keeps on giving. He was a man of unwavering faith and boundless kindness. His genuine care for others and his vibrant spirit enriched countless lives. Known for his ever-present smile and optimistic outlook, Dan was an enthusiastic sports fan who took great joy in playing golf and following the Chicago Bears and Cubs. His encyclopedic knowledge of movies, and his ability to bring humor through quotes from films like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Borat, and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, created many moments of joy with family and friends. Dan’s commitment to his church was a testament to his deep sense of purpose and impact on those around him. Above all, Dan was a devoted husband and father, a role he cherished deeply.
He is survived by his wife, Charis Barrins; their children, Emmett and Aria Barrins; his parents, Michael and Barb Barrins; his siblings, Patrick Barrins, Annie Gretencord (James & Salem), and Ben Barrins along with his wife, Charis’ large and loving family. He is also survived by his aunt, Maggie “Buddy” Powers, surrogate childhood family The Schwantners, and great aunt Noelle. Preceded in death by his Uncle Gary, who was instrumental in Dan’s love for golf, and his mother-in-law, Theresa.
Daniel’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, through the lessons he imparted and the love he so generously shared. May he rest in peace, comforted by the knowledge that he was deeply loved and cherished.
A note from Barb, Dan's loving mother:
"Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion" has been a quote that's meaningful to our family from the movie Steel Magnolia's. I hope you find both in this list:
Think of Dan When You:
Watch the Bears or Cubs play (and the Packers lose)
Play a round of golf
Smoke a cigar
Eat at Wendy’s
Smell bacon
Eat a bowl of Cheerios
See someone wearing shorts in the wintertime (no matter how cold)
Wear a baseball cap (as a child, Dan wore a hat so much, he was often referred to as “the one in the hat”)
Quote your favorite movies
See his beautiful children, Emmett & Aria
Honor Dan's Memory By:
Supporting and cheering for everyone’s success. No one was a bigger cheerleader than Dan.
Volunteer your time (Dan spent countless hours volunteering his time to youth groups).
When given the choice between two things, Dan always said “I want both!” It was in reference to the movie Radio and his typical response to “do you want cake or ice cream?” Always choose both.
Our goal is to make the memories of Dan so vivid that Emmett and Aria know what kind of person their Dad was. Stay in contact with Charis, Emmett and Aria and talk about Dan often. Add photos or videos here to keep his memory for Emmett and Aria.
A note from Charis:
He met his wife Charis while working at a daycare in 2011. He knew from the moment he met her that she was the one he wanted spend his life with and they fell deeply in love and were married in June of 2012. They raised two beautiful children together- Emmett and Aria. They were Dan's world. His top priority was to make sure his kids knew he loved them. He came from a loving family. His parents Mike and Barb raised him to be a great man. And he fulfilled that all of his days. He was the oldest of his siblings. He was the protector from the beginning. He took care of his siblings - Patrick, Annie and Ben from the moment they were born.
When he married Charis, he gained a very big and very loud family, but that never intimidated him. He naturally stepped in and loved them as his own and became a protector again. Dan loved deeply and well. He knew how to show people he cared for them and he never missed a moment to show it. If anyone asked him for something, he gave it generously and anything else he could give.
He will be missed deeply. Until we meet again my love.
