Dana's obituary
Dana Lynnette (Ryer) Crisp, 64, of Temecula, California passed away on July 9, 2025 at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. All that knew Dana will miss her genuine love for others, her perpetually hopeful attitude, her unique sense of humor, and her wise words of comfort and counsel.
Dana was born in Bellflower, California on April 24, 1961 to Stephen Earsel and Shirley Helene (Arthur) Ryer, and subsequently spent the majority of her life in Southern California. She often recounted stories of her adventurous youth, attending concerts for her favorite rock bands and spending time at and around the state’s many beaches with friends and family. She graduated from Westminster High School in Westminster, California in 1979.
Dana spent her adult life in the service of others. Starting in 1982, Dana spent a year and a half in Nagoya, Japan as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As a devout member of that church she volunteered in various service capacities, most often working with youth to teach and to mentor. She is beloved for her compassion and light-hearted counsel in her working with youth throughout Southern California, especially in the Temecula Valley area. Among specific volunteer roles, she is remembered fondly as an early morning seminary instructor, where she taught high school age teenagers before school hours. She brought enthusiasm, humor, and joy to the role.
Dana also worked for almost 20 years with children and youth in a professional capacity for Temecula Valley Unified School District in various roles, including as crossing guard, health clerk, and most recently as attendance clerk. She worked closely with and endeared herself to students, parents, and colleagues alike, and will be remembered for her hard work, kindness, and supreme joy for life. She was a two-time recipient of Classified Employee of the Year.
While faith, service, and professional accomplishment were paramount in Dana’s life, what brought her the greatest joy was her family. On January 14, 1989, she married Albert Bryan Crisp II in Los Angeles, California. They enjoyed over 36 years of marriage together. She was always a loving and compassionate wife and mother, living by example in the manner of Christ. She created and maintained fond memories camping at Carlsbad State Beach; acting as Team Mom and keeping score for her boys’ baseball teams; planning and attending summer girls’ camps with her daughter and subsequent groups of youth girls; holding “Grandma Summer Camps” with her grandchildren, whether they were teens, kids, toddlers, or infants; and so passionately celebrating the successes of her beloved Los Angeles Dodgers. These and countless others have endeared Dana to so many, especially her close family, who will miss her dearly.
Dana’s faith in the eternal nature of families was unwavering. She was preceded in death by her mother Shirley (Arthur) Ryer (1993), father Stephen Ryer (2008), and her 3 sisters Tamara Ryer (1959), Randi Ryer (1962) and Tina (Ryer) Stephens (2021). She is survived by her husband Albert Crisp; 4 children: Amy Crisp, Ethan (Grace) Crisp, Stephen (Alexa) Crisp, Benjamin (Kamree) Crisp; 2 stepchildren: Katie Barnes and Kent Crisp; and 7 grandchildren: Joshua, Samuel, A.J., Zella, Ava, Camden, and Collin.
To honor her memory and celebrate her life, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19th at 10:00am in the Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 29657 N General Kearny Rd, Temecula, CA 92591.
