Norman,
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of Dan. Also sorry to let you know that neither my mother, Joan, his first cousin, nor I, second cousin, will be able to attend the Celebration of Life in Shreveport.
I enjoyed the video of the Celebration of Life in CA about Dan. You were right when you said he didn’t grow up playing with many cousins, like you did. I grew up down the street from cousins on my dad’s side, so I understand.
Yes, Dan’s mother was older when she had him, and only having one sister, my grandmother on my mother’s side, made him my second cousin, though we were only one year apart. And because we were close in age, I remember playing hide and seek in the two-story house on Unadilla St. in Shreveport, while my mother visited his mother. As teens, I enjoyed our walks in the neighborhood and to the nearby park. I remember that he liked art and landscaping.
After college, I visited Dan at Ultimate Appearances to get my hair cut and permed. That’s when I learned he was a perfectionist!! I have to admit, being the oldest of five siblings, I am one also.
We lost touch after he moved away from Shreveport. We finally met up with him and you, Norman, in Lafayette a few years ago and enjoyed reminiscing.
Dan was a very caring person and he will be missed!

He sold hair products to salons throughout Riverside and San Bernardino Counties for many years. In 2008 he moved to Dallas Texas, where he met Norman Luke. They began a relationship in Dallas, moved to Austin, TX and ultimately Palm Springs, CA. There they were active in charity and social organizations and developed a large community of friends. They were married on January 3, 2019. Dan was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November, 2020. In addition to a core medical team in Palm Springs, their cancer fight took them to UCLA, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN, San Diego for proton therapy at California Protons, and UCSD.
